A Japanese-Cuban co-produc?on, ERNESTO follows Freddy and his fellow exchange
students' through their tumultuous lives in Havana medical school in the early 1960s, when
the Cuban government began training interna?onal doctors to provide health care in their
homelands. Dra?ed into the Cuban military during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Freddy's real life
encounters with Che Guevara and Fidel Castro test and forge his ideals. When the military
wrests control of his na?ve Bolivia, he vows to liberate his country, leaving behind the
woman and child he loves.
